The NFL is continuing to investigate what led to a fight between two women in the presence of Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Dante Fowler at a Florida apartment complex earlier this month.
The video was published Feb. 23 by TMZ and shows Fowler standing and talking to the women before they begin the brawl. One of the ladies in the video is believed to be his girlfriend and the other is the mother of his child. Fowler watched the vicious fight go on and finally intervened to stop it by pushing one of the women off the other.
The video last for more than a minute and many believe that the fight was over the athlete and that he may have even encouraged the tussle.
After the footage was made public Fowler released a statement in which he said that he was “embarrassed” by the incident and took responsibility for it.
"I am embarrassed and have apologized for my actions to everyone involved," he said. "As a family, we have been dealing with this moment and the conflict that led to it since this occurred. The video surfacing is a sad reminder that emotions got the best of all of us. I take 100 percent responsibility for everything that happened."
Both the Jaguars and the NFL are looking into what events took place leading up to the video to determine if Fowler should be disciplined.
The 21-year-old was the third pick in the 2015 draft but missed all of last season with a torn ACL.
