I Was Blind (Dating), But Now I See is the story of a woman who is just trying to find the love of her life, through numerous, often uncomfortable, blind dates. The author, Stephanie Rische, is looking for love in all the wrong places, namely blind dates.
By the title of this book, one might assume that this book will solely talk about the horrors (and joys....eh that’s a stretch, I’ll get back to you on that one) of the dating world, pining over men and figuring out what to wear. However, Ms. Rische is not a one-note wonder obsessed with men and dating. Granted, each section of the book (there are eight sections of the book, one for each blind date) starts with a story about a blind date, but there is more to the book than just dating.
Rische talks about everything else going on in her life of being in her late twenties into her early thirties: her friends getting married, living on her own, starting and maintaining friendships, developing a career, and staying strong to her faith.
Christian faith is a central pillar of this book. If that deters you as a reader, I would not recommend this book. If it does not, read on my friend. Rische has a bible quote or story for every situation, both good and bad, to give perspective to life’s events and make the reader feel that they too are not alone in the world.
The book is a quick read. It has some serious moments and heavy emotions, but Rische counters it with happy, light moments. The author’s writing is enjoyable and her stories are relatable. It’s a good read for anyone who is feeling a little hopeless in life (especially in the dating world), needs reassurance that they will be “ok,” or needs their faith (no matter what kind) to be restored.
