Filmmaker Spike Lee has felt the Bern. The director has recorded a radio ad for Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders ahead of the South Carolina Democratic primary on Feb. 27.
In the minute-long spot, Lee tells South Carolina voters to “Wake up!” He also brings up several of Sanders’ talking points and assures voters that Sanders is not beholden to special interests.
“Bernie takes no money from corporations. Nada! Which means that he is not on the take,” Lee says in the spot. “And when Bernie gets in the White House, he will do the right thing.”
Lee then notes how Sanders was at the famous March on Washington and was arrested in Chicago during a protest of segregation.
The spot comes as Sanders has struggled to gain support of African Americans and just after Hillary Clinton’s at the Nevada caucuses this past weekend. According to a CNN/ORC poll in South Carolina, Sanders had just 28 percent support from African American voters, as opposed to Clinton’s 65 percent support.
