Emmy winner Tony Shalhoub will star in CBS’ summer political comedy BrainDead, which was created by The Good Wife’s Robert and Michelle King.
The former Monk star will play Republican Senator Red Wheatus, a hard-drinking politician who has been in Washington for decades. He undergoes a sudden change though and becomes a health-conscious extremist.
The series also stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Laurel, a Capitol Hill staffer who finds out that aliens have eaten the brains of U.S. Congressmen. Law & Order: SVU alum Danny Pino, Nikki M. James and Aaron Tivet are also members of the cast.
BrainDead will be a summer CBS show and, like past summer CBS shows, will also be available on Amazon Prime Instant Video.
Shalhoub is a two-time Emmy and one-time Golden Globe winner for his work on USA Network’s Monk. His other TV credits include Nurse Jackie, Wings and Stark Raving Mad. He most recently worked on CBS in the sitcom We Are Men, which lasted just two episodes before it was pulled from the schedule. Hopefully, BrainDead does much better.
