There are lots to laugh at in theaters this Valentine’s Day weekend. Moviegoers will find humor in dating, modeling and crime fighting.
A Special Forces operative, suffering from cancer, is given the opportunity to participate in an experiment that will make him better in Deadpool. The procedure gives him super powers and the ability to heal quickly. The unconventional superhero brings humor to his crusades as he seeks revenge on a man that has done him wrong. Ryan Reynolds stars in the comedic action film. The adventure film is running in conventional, 3D and IMAX 3D theaters and runs one hour and 48 minutes. It’s rated R for violence, language, sex and nudity.
A newly single woman learns the ropes from her unattached friends in How to be Single. The women navigate the New York City dating scene with flirting and sexual encounters. Dakota Johnson, Rebel Wilson, Alison Brie, Leslie Mann, Anders Holm and Damon Wayans Jr. star in the one hour and 50-minute romantic comedy. The film is rated R for sex and language.
The world’s most popular male supermodel is strutting his stuff once again in Zoolander 2. The sequel to the 2001 hit film is set ten years after the original, when Derek Zoolander’s modeling career is almost non-existent. The man with the famous looks is called upon by Interpol to get back on the runway and find the person responsible for murdering the best looking people. The PG-13 comedy stars Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Penelope Cruz, Billy Zane, Jonah Hill and Fred Armisen. The one hour and 52-minute film is co-written by Ben Stiller and Justin Theroux.
A female poet with bi-polar disorder checks herself into a mental hospital in Touched with Fire. In the facility, she meets and falls for a fellow poet suffering from the same illness. The two propel each other’s mood swings to new heights. The limited released romantic drama stars Katie Holmes and Luke Kirby. The one hour and 50-minute film is rated R for language, sex and drugs.
A killer is out to get the young girl who witnessed his crime in Standoff. A veteran with one bullet goes to great lengths to protect the girl from the man out to get her. The one hour and twenty minute thriller stars Laurence Fishburne, Thomas Jane and Ella Ballentine. The limited released film is rated R for violence and language.
After six years, Michael Moore is back with a new documentary called Where to Invade Next. In the one hour and 59-minute film, Moore travels the world to see how others live and how the United States can benefit from other countries’ policies and traditions. The limited released film is rated R for language, violence, drugs and nudity.
After all of the laughs this week, next week brings more serious films. A religious film and the Jesse Owens biopic hit theaters on Feb. 19.
