The Walking Dead has made creator Robert Kirkman a highly sought-after writer in not just Hollywood, but around the world. His newest TV project will be made in Korea, highlighting his most famous creation’s international appeal.
The new show is called Five Year and centers on a family dealing with the threat of a meteor heading right for earth. It will be made in Korea and will air on TV there, notes Entertainment Weekly. It will later be available on streaming site Viki.com, a home for other Korean shows, and is being produced by Kirkman’s Skybound Entertainment.
Five Year is planned to run for five seasons, covering five years of the characters’ lives. Filming starts this year.
“This has been a story I have wanted to tell for quite some time, but [Skybound co-founder David Alpert] and I wanted to make sure it found a proper home where it could grow and breathe creatively,” Kirkman said in a statement. “Looking at what Viki has done in not only the dramatic series space, but transforming the way viewers consume and translate media, we knew immediately Five Year had found its home.”
In addition to The Walking Dead on AMC, Kirkman also has that show’s companion series, Fear The Walking Dead, which will get a second season. The Walking Dead was picked up for season seven already. He is also working on Outcast for Cinemax.
