Garry Shandling, an actor, producer and comedian known for It’s Garry Shandling’s Show and The Larry Sanders Show has died at the age of 66. The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed he passed away March 24.
Variety reported a 911 call came and according to an LAPD spokesman, Shandling was going through a “medical emergency.” He was taken to the hospital where he passed away.
He did not appear to have recent illnesses and was active on his Twitter account in the days before his death. TMZ reported that a source said he appeared to have a massive heart attack.
The Larry Sanders Show ran from 1992-1998 and ran on HBO. It was a show that was an early part of HBO running original series’ and it won multiple Emmy Awards, Variety also reported.
Shandling’s comedic talents focused on both observational and neurotic humor, especially when he would focus on relationships in the romantic sense.
He obtained a marketing degree and when Shandling moved from Arizona to Los Angeles, he worked on such shows as Welcome Back, Kotter as a writer and was a guest host for Johnny Caron.
He also had roles in Iron Man 2, Dr. Dolittle, Captain America: Winter Soldier and Zoolander, among others.
At the time of his death, Shandling was single, having never been married nor did he have children.
Comedienne Kathy Griffin tweeted her condolences, saying “Sunday, my longtime friend Garry Shandling was here, making every1 laugh. I loved him. I’ll miss our talks the most.”
Bob Odenkirk also tweeted about Shandling’s sudden death.
