Devar Hurd, the man who stalked singer Ashanti and sent her numerous lewd tweets and photos, was found guilty last week.
Hurd, who chose to represent himself, gave his closing arguments on March 17. He stated that tweeting and texting were not a crime and that the music business is a sexually explicit one, according to the New York Daily News.
TMZ reports that Hurd also noted that if Ashanti found the tweets so offensive, she could have simply blocked him.
As we previously reported, Hurd compared himself to disgraced politician Anthony Weiner, who had texted photos of his naked genitals to other women but not been arrested. “I didn’t even send no nude pics. I just talked some sexually explicit stuff from time to time. Why didn’t he get arrested for doing the same stuff," Hurd asked in court.
But his defense failed to impress the jury. He was found guilty of second degree stalking and will be sentenced later this month. Hurd, who has been in jail since his original arrest in 2013, now faces a year and a half to four years behind bars.
Ashanti took to social media to celebrate the end of her ordeal in court, sharing a tweet and Instagram post rejoicing the end of her trial and thanking fans for their support.
