Dallas Stars center Tyler Seguin will be out for three to four weeks due to a cut Achilles tendon, the team announced on Friday.
The injury occurred on March 17, against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Seguin was battling for the puck with Lightning defenseman Anton Stralman with 22 seconds left in the game and Stralman’s skate cut the Achilles tendon in Seguin’s right leg, according to NHL.com.
Seguin suffered a 15 percent cut of his Achilles tendon according to the team. He had surgery on Friday and is expected to be back for the playoffs.
The injury came on the same day that the Stars got forward Patrick Sharp back from injury. The Stars are still without defensemen John Klingberg and Jordie Benn, but Klingberg is close to coming back.
"The skate cut his Achilles tendon," Stars general manager Jim Nill said. "It's a 15-percent cut of the Achilles tendon, probably the best-case scenario other than the tendon being totally cut. They operated on him this morning, stitched him back up. He will be out 3-4 weeks and should be back for the [Stanley Cup] Playoffs. It's as good a case scenario as it could be, considering how he got cut [and] where he got cut."
Seguin is having a good season with33 goals and 73 points this season, according to ESPN. He also has 40 assists. Seguin’s 26 even-strength goals lead the NHL. He ranks second in team scoring behind Jamie Benn, and is tied for third in the league in points.
The Stars have a two-point lead on the St. Louis Blues for first place in the Central Division and have a two point lead over the Blues and the Los Angeles Kings for first place in the Western Conference.
