Ryan Reynolds’ film Deadpool has officially become the top-earning R-rated film in the history of film.
The Verge reported the film’s opening weekend brought in $152.2 million and so far, it has earned $349.5 million, not quite enough to beat record-holder The Passion of the Christ.
In the foreign markets, it has grossed almost $400 million, according to Box Office Mojo.
While the film did have an R rating, viewers enjoyed the film for its funny, gritty comedy and the love story between Reynolds’ Deadpool and Morena Baccarin’s Vanessa.
This is not the film’s first box office record breaker. Before being nominated for an MTV Movie Award, the film’s third weekend after its release saw it gross $31.5 million and after 10 days of being out, it grossed $235.3 million domestically.
Another R-rated superhero film, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, will be released this coming summer, so we will see how the film fares at the box office, as well.
