The Starz adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s acclaimed novel American Gods has added another key player.

Emily Browning, who recently starred in Legend with Tom Hardy, will star as Laura Moon, the wife of Shadow Moon. The casting was reported by The Hollywood Reporter and was confirmed by Starz on Twitter.

“I've been fascinated by Emily Browning since A Series of Unfortunate Events. She has a challenge ahead of her,” Gaiman told THR. “Laura is a tricky character, and the Laura on the screen is even trickier and more dangerous than the one on the page. She's going to have a wonderful time bringing Laura to life.”

Shadow Moon is the series’ main character and will be played by Ricky Whittle (The 100). The character is an ex-con who travels around with Mr. Wednesday, a con man who is actually a god. In the world of American Gods, there has been a long war between gods with mythological roots and new gods inspired by the modern world’s vices.

Earlier this month, Ian McShane (Deadwood) was cast as Mr. Wednesday.

Production on American Gods starts next month. The showrunners are Hannibal’s Bryan Fuller and The River’s Michael Green.
