Jordana Brewster, the Fast & Furious franchise stalwart, has joined Fox’s pilot based on the Lethal Weapon film franchise.

Lethal Weapon will follow the basic plot of the original movies, although director Richard Donner and writer Shane Black are not involved. Damon Wayans Sr. has been cast to play Danny Glover’s part, but Mel Gibson’s role is still not cast.

According to Deadline, Brewster will star as Dr. Maureen Cahill, the hostage negotiator for the Los Angeles Police Department. She also helps police as a therapist and has found a challenge with Martin Riggs (Gibson’s part in the movies).

Brewster is best known for playing Mia in Universal’s The Fast and the Furious series, but also frequently does TV work. She starred in the short-lived TNT Dallas reboot, has a role in American Crime Story and appeared in NBC’s Chuck. She also played Jane Smith in a 2007 pilot based on Mr. & Mrs. Smith.

The Lethal Weapon pilot will be directed by McG and written by Matt Miller.
