On this week's episode of How to Get Away with Murder, Annalise goes to the ADA about Phillip, Frank tries to win Laurel back, and Wes continues to distance himself while searching for information about his mother's death.
In a series of intercut scenes, Wes tells his psychiatrist about his trip to Ohio. Given what he’s found out, he believes his mother didn’t commit suicide. She was murdered since she was going to testify in the Mahoney case. Wes wants his psychiatrist’s help in remembering the events leading up to her death and soon recalls his mother being questioned by ICE. Simultaneously, Laurel argues with Annalise about the paper she swiped from the case files in Ohio. Annalise brushes off Laurel’s accusations that Wes could’ve killed his mother.
Cue opening theme.
Laurel calls Wes to update him on Phillip, when Frank joins her and asks to speak in private. He tries to apologize for keeping his role in Lila’s death a secret from her, but she dismisses him. Laurel doesn’t believe what Frank says anymore.
In a montage, Annalise lectures her students on lying to protect clients, and the group contemplates what they should do to combat Phillip’s blackmail. Later, the group receives a third video from Phillip — this time of Michaela and Caleb, prompting Annalise to visit A.D.A. Denver and bring the problem to his attention.
Ten years earlier, Frank checks on Annalise, who informs him that she’s given him the day off. When Frank leaves, Annalise invites Eve to her hotel room, where they order room service and catch up. When Annalise reveals her pregnancy to Eve, Eve seems caught off guard and upset.
Wes’ psychiatrist asks him why he doesn’t just go to Annalise for help and Wes storms out, angrily.
Michaela talks to Caleb. He invites her to dinner and she nearly lets slip about Phillip. Moments later, Laurel asks why they haven’t heard from Annalise yet. The phone rings, and Bonnie learns Annalise is waiting on approval. Simultaneously, Nate calls Annalise to warn her that the D.A. has obtained a search warrant for her house and Denver is playing her. When Denver returns to tell Annalise everything’s good and that she’ll receive immunity, she talks to Bonnie again and passes on Nate’s warning. She tells Bonnie to destroy all the evidence and has Connor impersonate the judge’s secretary to sign off on the warrant. Later when Bonnie calls saying the warrant hasn’t been signed, the search is halted and Annalise gets her immunity.
In a flashback, Annalise shares her pregnancy worries with Eve and takes a call from Mahoney. She tells him she’s doing everything she can to get Rose to testify.
Wes continues looking over paperwork when Laurel shows and accidentally lets slip that she told Annalise they went to Ohio. Wes asks Laurel to leave.
Annalise’s students camp out at Asher’s and wonder if they’re really safe. Oliver mentions Stanford and Connor shares how he’s considering transferring law schools.
Frank and Bonnie share drinks and avoid talking about Laurel and Asher.
When the others are asleep, Michaela pleads with Connor not to go to Stanford. She claims she can’t stay sane without him.
In a flashback, Annalise and Eve get into an explosive argument when Annalise claims that Eve never forgave her for leaving her for Sam. Moments after, Eve gets a call from Rose.
Eve and Rose meet up, since Eve is the lawyer ICE appointed to her. Rose says she’ll do what Annalise needs.
Wes does some research on a newspaper article he finds among his case files, then goes to Annalise’s for further insight. She’s at Nate’s.
Wes snoops through Annalise’s things and finds the paper Laurel swiped.
Annalise talks with Denver. He says if Phillip has more footage, Annalise’s immunity won’t cover it. When Annalise reports back to her students and mentions they’ve been granted immunity, she asks them to keep quiet.
Wes returns to his psychiatrist, worrying that he killed his mom. In a flashback, Eve tells Annalise that Rose will testify.
Laurel makes one last-ditch effort to try to get Annalise to talk to Wes.
Wes tells his psychiatrist he’s withheld information from her and this information could indicate his guilt in his mother’s death. In a flashback, Rose prepares to flee with a young Wes, but Wes doesn’t want to leave his home. Wes runs away, and when he finally returns home, he finds his mother dead. Wes’ psychiatrist tries to reason with him that his brain could be creating false memories, with little avail.
Frank tells Laurel he confessed about Lila because he loves her, but the feelings aren’t mutual.
Wes puts away papers and notices Eve’s signature on his mother’s immigration documents. Flashbacks indicate that Annalise receives a call from Rose before meeting with Mahoney one last time.
Annalise visits Wes to talk. He won’t open the door, so Annalise slips a note under it. When the note disappears, Annalise moves in.
In the past, Annalise meets with a frantic Rose, who can’t find Wes and is having reservations about testifying. When Rose learns that Annalise met with Mahoney and Mahoney threatened Wes, Rose stabs herself in the neck with a knife. Annalise flees the scene and hides around a bend in the hallway when she hears Wes arrive to discover his mother’s body.
Wes tries to save his mother by removing the knife and calling 911.
In the present, Annalise searches for Wes and gets a call from Eve. Wes is with her and is asking questions, since he discovered her name on Rose’s immigration forms. Eve doesn’t know how to handle it and wants Annalise’s advice. Just as she is about to answer, Annalise instructs Eve to call 911; someone is in Wes’ apartment. Barely a beat later, Annalise is ambushed by Phillip.
End of episode.
