A Utah police officer got a "Happy Birthday" performance from iconic soul singer Gladys Knight after pulling her driver over for speeding on March 2.

Officer Paul Rogerson took the driver's license and went to his patrol car to check it when the driver told him that Knight was in the car, according to The Associated Press.

Knight was a passenger in a car that was speeding in Pleasant Grove, a town about 40 miles away from Salt Lake City, according to Pleasant Grove Police Capt. Mike Roberts. She was on her way to a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints choir event.

The seven-time Grammy Award-winning singer is a recent Mormon convert and she was speaking at the event.

Rogerson told the driver that it was his birthday. When Knight heard this, she got out of the car and started singing "Happy Birthday" to him. The police department posted a photo on Facebook.

Police said that Rogerson let them go with a warning. Jeanteil Livingston, a spokeswoman for Knight, said that Knight lives in Las Vegas but she was in Utah for the event.
