Jim, Bullock and GCPD officers arrive at ACE chemicals. They are responding to a break-in by Victor Fries. They discover several frozen guards and find out Victor took a hostage and the liquid helium he needs. He wants his wife returned to him…
Leslie visits Bruce at Wayne Manor. He has returned from a trip to Switzerland to try and relax him after his traumatic experience. She wants to know how Bruce is doing. Bruce says the experience made him feel alive and that he is ok. He only wants to find the man who killed his parents. It seems that Bruce is slowly maturing into the next stage of his life.
Barnes is furious over Victor’s request and wants to set a trap for him. He decides to move Nora Fries to Arkham, where she can get the medical care she needs and they can capture Victor. Victor is also preparing to get his wife back. He knows that a trap is being set for him. He is arming himself with what appear to be “freeze grenades.”
Leslie is against the idea of transporting Nora. Jim promises this is their best option and they have to take it. Leslie wants to accompany her patient. Meanwhile, Hugo Strange is conducting experiments on Victor’s victims at Indian Hill. He gets word that Nora is being transferred to Arkham. “The fates are smiling on us,” Hugo says with a smile on his face.
Hugo’s assistant Ms. Peabody is supervising some therapy involving Penguin. The therapy is confusing Penguin; he can’t figure out what is real and what is a dream. Jim and Bullock notice Penguin inside Arkham. Jim briefly talks to Penguin, where he tells Jim they are torturing him. He pleads with Jim, with Hugo watching on the security cameras. Hugo Strange is finding out many secrets.
Bruce is continuing his training when Alfred comes in and reminds him again why they left Gotham. Alfred was worried about Bruce’s well-being and also tells Bruce that he has obtained a file on a man Silver mentioned by the name of Matches Malone. Bruce immediately wants to kill him. Alfred says they should talk to him. Bruce agrees…only if Alfred kills him after they talk.
Leslie takes Nora into Arkham’s infirmary and notices the only other patient inside is Barbara Kean. The last person Leslie would ever want to see. She has some choice words for a sleeping Barbara when Nora wakes up. Nora knows what Leslie is doing for her and that she knows Victor is coming for her.
Jim and Bullock are waiting for Victor’s imminent arrival. A delivery truck crashes into Arkham’s gates with the driver having his hands frozen to the steering wheel. This was simply a distraction as alarms ring through Arkham as Victor breaks in through the wall. Jim and Bullock try to beat him to the infirmary. They are trapped but Jim slips through. Victor is let into the facility by Hugo.
Victor walks inside the therapy room where Hugo talks to him over the PA, offering him a deal. He will give Victor his wife and freedom in exchange for one of the liquid helium cartridges. Victor agrees. Jim finds Leslie and tries to get them out of the infirmary when Victor cuts them off. He doesn’t want to hurt anyone else, just get his wife to safety to help her. He takes Leslie with him to help. He traps Jim in the closet, allowing them to escape.
Peabody recovers the liquid helium cartridge and gives it to Hugo. Hugo then lies to Bullock and the officers and allows them access inside. This episode has been very profitable for Hugo Strange.
Bullock thinks that Victor will take Nora back to his house into his lab. He is absolutely correct. Victor is preparing to treat Nora. Nora suggests that Victor let her go. Victor tells Nora to never give up hope. Nora wants Victor to get her necklace. He fetches the necklace while Nora distracts Leslie and switches the cartridges on the freezing gun.
Nora knows her husband isn’t a bad man. Victor puts on the necklace and slowly begins freezing her. Jim, Bullock and GCPD arrive right after he has frozen Nora, whose body slowly starts cracking. Victor is horrified and notices that she switched the cartridges. He tells Leslie to tell the police he will turn himself in. He sits down next to his wife and inserts himself with the liquid helium. It appears to freeze and kill him.
Selina visits Bruce like old times. Bruce wants a favor from Selina. He tells her that Alfred tracked down the man Silver mentioned to them. He wants Selina to get him a gun so he can kill him. Selina warns Bruce that this will change him. “That’s what I’m counting on,” Bruce harshly replies.
A new day in Gotham. Jim gets a call from Hugo Strange saying that Victor Fries died at the Arkham infirmary. Leslie is upset with Jim because he lied to her about how Theo Galavan died. Tension between Jim and Leslie.
Penguin is getting more aggressive therapy at Arkham. Hugo leaves it in the hands of Peabody as he goes to visit their new guest. We see that Victor Fries is still alive, his body transformed due to his formula. He can only survive in hypothermic conditions. Hugo promises to get to work to help him. He tells Victor that “death is a new beginning.” It seems to me that Victor Fries is dead and Mr. Freeze is born.
We see pods that appear to have Theo Galavan inside. Is Hugo Strange trying to bring back Theo Galavan?
