J.J. Abrams is still developing movie adaptations of the popular video games Portal and Half Life.

In an interview with IGN, Abrams confirmed that both films are currently in development and in fact both projects have writers attached. He didn't name any names, though, nor could he offer many specific updates, but it's still great to hear that the movies have not been abandoned.

This is the first we've heard about the Portal and Half Life movies since about three years ago, when Abrams originally said he was working with Valve on both films, according to Polygon.

"We've had so many meetings and finally got to a point where we said, 'We need to start making stuff,'" Abrams said at the time. "And so the ideas that we've had for games, the ideas they've had for turning Portal and Half-Life into a film, we just decided we actually have to start doing this stuff."

Although no writers or directors have been attached, Dan Trachtenberg would certainly be a logical choice. The 10 Cloverfield Lane director was recognized by Bad Robot after making a short film based on Portal called Portal: No Escape. After an impressive opening weekend, the studio is certainly happy with Trachtenberg's work on 10 Cloverfield Lane, so it would be surprising if he had no involvement in Portal whatsoever.
