Professional racecar driver Jimmie Johnson accomplished more than just one feat when he won NASCAR’s Auto Club 400 Sprint Cup race on March 20. In doing so, the 40-year-old also passed racing great Dale Earnhardt Sr. on the all-time win’s list.

USA Today reported that Johnson finished first in the race in overtime ahead of Kevin Harvick and Denny Hamlin to secure his 77th win; one more than Dale Earnhardt Sr. and six behind Cale Yaborough.

The Charlotte Observer noted that in addition to moving up to seventh on the all-time list, Johnson also became the first multiple win driver of the season so far through five races.

After the race concluded Sunday, Earnhardt’s son, Dale Earnahrdt Jr., was asked how he felt about Johnson passing his father’s win total.

“It’s something inevitable, I guess,” Earnhardt said. “I remember when Jeff [Gordon] passed Daddy [and] got all the way up to 93 wins. Jimmie is going to have quite a few more. He may surpass Jeff.”
