In a strange twist to the O.J. Simpson murder case, which ended with him being found not guilty of the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman, Los Angeles police detectives are investigating a buried knife that was found at site of Simpson’s former Brentwood estate.
News of the investigation was first reported by TMZ. Police did confirm to The Hollywood Reporter that the investigation is ongoing.
Sources for TMZ described this as a top secret investigation and it’s not even clear when the folding buck knife was found. The site reports that the knife could have been found as far back as 1998, when the mansion was demolished.
TMZ was told that a construction worker found the knife and told a Los Angeles Police Department officer about it. The officer, who was off duty at the time, took the knife home and kept it.
After the officer retired in January, he called a friend in the Robbery Homicide Division because he wanted to get the case number for the murders just so he could engrave it on a frame. The friend was shocked and told his superiors, who were angered by the news. They asked the retired officer to give them the knife to investigate and he did, TMZ reports.
While the investigation into the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Goldman is open, Simpson can’t face charges again because of double jeopardy. Simpson is in prison after being convicted of robbery in Nevada.
