The case of Steven Avery is still ongoing and it looks like Netflix will continue to tell the story.

According to Variety, Making a Murderer directors Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos say they will likely produce future episodes of the series as soon as there are significant developments in the case. As they explained, Avery's tale is certainly not over.

"We have no idea when the magistrate will make a decision in Brendan [Dassey]'s case," Ricciardi said. "We do know that two potential outcomes are that the judge could order Brendan’s release or he could order a new trial. So we are on the edge of seats about that. To the extent that there are significant developments, we would like to continue documenting this.”

In some way, Ricciardi and Demos are already working on additional episodes, as they noted that they have continued to record conversations with Steven Avery even after the first season ended, as we previously reported. It seems like Netflix would be open to buying a second season, according to the studio's CCO, Ted Sarandos.

“The story is still unfolding. So we’ll certainly take a look at it,” Sarandos said, according to the Los Angeles Times.

One potential setback could be the fact that many people in Wisconsin are now hostile towards the filmmaking duo ever since the documentary premiered, feeling that Wisconsin was treated unfairly.

Making a Murderer fans will have to be patient, though; The first season took roughly 10 years to make, so don't exactly new episodes to hit anytime soon.
