During an appearance at SXSW, Michelle Obama told the crowd that she doesn’t have any presidential aspirations and won’t follow in the footsteps of former First Lady Hillary Clinton.
While speaking about her passion for working with younger people as First Lady, Obama said her work won’t stop when President Obama’s term ends.
"I’m going to continue to work with our young people all over the world,” she said. "But not as president. I will not run for president.”
According to LA Times, she said the reasoning behind it is because of her two daughters, Sasha and Malia, who have already dealt with the public scrutiny of a parent being in the highest level of political office in the United States for the past eight years.
“I hope there’s some people in the audience that want to be president of the United States,” she added. “We need good, smart, decent people with strong values and strong morals that want to go into politics. So I would encourage all of you to consider a life in public service."
Back in October, Obama revealed what her post-White House plans will be: going to Target, driving and opening windows.
