Investigators testing a knife recovered from O.J. Simpson’s former Rockingham estate were reportedly unable to get a DNA result from the object.

TMZ reported that sources familiar with the LAPD’s investigation said that they could not recover any DNA evidence, as it was likely destroyed by the soil in which the knife is believed to have been buried for some time.

We previously reported on the news that the LAPD was looking into the 5-inch knife found at Rockingham. The blade was said to have been discovered by a construction worker, who then gave it to a police officer monitoring traffic. That officer, however, allegedly took the knife to his home, where he kept it for several years before handing it over to the department.

It appears now that there is no way of ever knowing if that was the knife used to kill Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman. O.J. was the sole suspect in the killings, but was acquitted of the murders in 1995. Marcia Clark, who was the prosecutor in the Simpson trial, said she was glad that the LAPD was testing the knife.
