The J.J. Abrams-produced CBS series Person of Interest will finally be returning for a fifth season, but it will be the crime show’s final season.

On Wednesday, CBS announced that Person of Interest’s long-delayed new season will start on Tuesday, May 3 at 10 p.m. On Monday, May 9, another new episode will air and another the following day, May 10. That way, the network gets through the remaining 13 episodes by early summer.

While that pretty much confirmed that the show will be ending for good, it wasn’t until executive producers Jonathan Nolan and Greg Plageman’s statement to IGN that it was official. The duo told the site:

“We’re extremely excited to be able share this final season with the fans. We’re eternally grateful to our amazing cast and crew, as well as our partners at the studio and network. Most of all, we want to thank the show's fans — the best fans in the world. This subversive little paranoia-inducing cyberpunk-thriller is for you and would not have been possible without your support. As life has come to imitate Person of Interest, it’s been our great privilege to work on show for the past five seasons. We can’t wait for you to experience this thrilling and final chapter.”

The good news for Person of Interest fans is that the show will get to end without a cliffhanger.

Person of Interest stars Jim Caviezel, Michael Emerson, Kevin Chapman and Amy Acker. Taraji P. Henson was a regular through 2013. Although the show had its fans, it only earned a single Emmy nomination - for sound mixing - in 2012.
