President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama will be speaking at South By Southwest in Austin, Texas this month.
Obama will have a conversation with Texas Tribune CEO/Editor In Chief Evan Smith on Friday, March 11 to discuss civic engagement in the 21st Century. The President is set to ask the audience to use their talents to develop technology that will help us face today’s challenges, from encouraging political engagement to stopping climate change.
Michelle Obama will speak on Wednesday, March 16 during SXSW Music to discuss her Let Girls Learn initiative, which helps 63 million girls around the world who do not attend school. SXSW Music is also celebrating Women’s History Month and ties into Michelle Obama’s initiative.
This is the first time that a sitting president has visited SXSW, which runs from March 11-20 in Austin.
“I can’t imagine a better way to celebrate our event’s 30th year than to welcome both the President and First Lady to SXSW,” SXSW co-founder Roland Swenson said. “As each new generation comes up at SXSW they look for ways they can be of service, and it’s important to reflect and support that message. President and Mrs. Obama’s visit here will inspire attendees to that purpose.”
TheCelebrityCafe.com will be covering SXSW again this year, so check back next week for coverage.
