Free-agent safety Rodney McLeod agreed to a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles on Wednesday.
According to NFL.com, McLeod’s deal is for five years and $37 million. The deal includes $17 million in guaranteed money. The deal is official at 4 p.m. Wednesday, when the new NFL year begins.
This is McLeod’s first major deal since he had a one-year, $2.35 million contract with the St. Louis Rams last year. He is the second player from the Rams secondary to leave, as cornerback Janoris Jenkins is expected to sign with the New York Giants.
McLeod signed with the Rams in 2012 as an undrafted free agent. He had a breakout year in 2015, with 81 tackles and scoring his first defensive touchdown on a fumble return. Pro Football Focus ranked him as the 10th best safety in the NFL last year. McLeod had 184 tackles, five interceptions, seven forced fumbles, and six fumble recoveries in three seasons with the Rams, according to ESPN.
This offseason, the Eagles have let safety Walter Thurmond and cornerback Nolan Carroll become free agents. They have also signed cornerback Leodis McKelvin and traded cornerback Byron Maxwell to the Miami Dolphins.
