Sally Field, who portrayed Aunt May in the Amazing Spider-Man movies, says she did not enjoy either of these films very much.

In an interview on The Howard Stern Show, Field explained that she didn't especially like The Amazing Spider-Man and that it was not her kind of movie. She says she took the role only because her friend, Laura Ziskin, was the producer and this was expected to be her last film. That's because Ziskin was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004, according to The New York Times. She passed away in June 2011, a year before the release of The Amazing Spider-Man.

When asked how much thought she put into playing Aunt May, Field said "not a great deal."

“Because it’s really hard to find a three dimensional character in it, and you work it as much as you can, but you can’t put ten pounds of shit in a five pound bag," she said.

She did go on to compliment Andrew Garfield, however, calling him a lovely actor and saying that they were able to find a relationship between the characters.

Field won't have to worry about playing Aunt May any longer, as the Amazing Spider-Man series abruptly came to an end when Marvel and Sony struck a deal to introduce the web-slinger into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The next Spider-Man film will be the 2017 reboot starring Tom Holland and this time Aunt May will be portrayed by Marisa Tomei, as we previously reported.
