On Tuesday’s episode of Shadowhunters, Clary and Jace dive into another dimension to seek out Valentine.
Meliorn tells Clary that her portal shard necklace comes from another dimension. He says if she can find the only portal still standing in that dimension, it will take her to Valentine.
Lydia questions the Shadowhunters tasked with bringing Meliorn to the Silent Brothers. She finds out that Shadowhunters were behind the attack that thwarted them.
Meliorn opens a door to another dimension. He says if the Seelie queen finds out he gave Clary and Jace knowledge of its whereabouts, he would be executed. Clary asks about the dimension. Meliorn says it’s an alternate timeline where there’s no longer a need for Shadowhunters. Downworlders hide amongst humans. He also tells Clary that she will assume the body of her other self, acting and feeling like Clary. She needs to fight to remember who she is so her alternate self won’t consume her.
Luke’s second-in-command lectures him about not being there for the pack. Suddenly, the pack picks up the smell of a vampire outside its headquarters. It’s Simon. Luke invites him in. Simon tells Luke that the transition is like puberty – everything makes him want to vamp out. Luke says it’s the same way with new werewolves.
Clary gives the Cup card to Jace before going through the door. Meliorn agrees she can come back for Jace if she finds the portal.
Clary jumps into her other body. Valentine enters the room and she holds a knife to him, demanding to see her mother. He calls Jocelyn into the room and Clary realizes they’re happily married. A commercial comes on advertising Magnus Bane as a tarot reader. Clary leaves her parents’ house.
Lydia arrests Izzy for treason. Alec tries to intervene, but Izzy goes willingly.
Clary finds Simon at Java Jace. Izzy and Alec are both nerds. They’re planning Valentine’s Mad Hatter party that night to celebrate his internet empire. Jace comes out of the truck and kisses Clary. She loses herself for a moment but then remembers why she’s there. She runs away.
The Internal Affairs agent comes upon Luke and Simon outside werewolf headquarters and tries to take Luke in. Simon loses control and attacks him, but Luke stops him after the agent is unconscious.
Clary loses herself in a tarot reading until Magnus’ cat breaks the spell. The Magnus in her dimension has no cats. She tells him that she’s a Shadowhunter from another dimension and she needs his magic to stop Valentine. He says his magic is dormant.
Alec tells Lydia he’ll give the Clave the Mortal Cup in exchange for Izzy’s freedom. He opens the lockbox, but the card isn’t there. He realizes that Jace has it.
Magnus takes a potion to regain his magic. It doesn’t work. Clary hands him her portal shard, which gives him a jolt of power. He says the portal is in the Institute, which has security like Fort Knox. Clary says her parents are holding a party there tonight and asks him to meet her.
Alec can’t track Jace through normal means because he’s in the Seelie world, but he can track him through his Parabatai bond. Izzy begs him not to because it could break his connection to Jace. Alec is too mad to care.
The internal affairs agent wakes, tied to a chair. Simon threatens to pump all the blood from his body. He’s posing as the demonic killer the agent is after. Simon goes after him and Luke barges into the room, shooting Simon multiple times to stop him.
Clary goes to the other Isabelle for help. She asks her if she can get Magnus on the guest list.
At the party, Jace asks Clary to dance, but she turns him down. He talks her into it and she loses herself again.
Meliorn feels the presence of a demon outside the dimensional door. It attacks. Jace and Meliorn fight back.
Hodge helps Alec locate Jace through their bond. It’s painful. Alec finds Jace, causing Jace to collapse. The demon gets by him and dives into the other dimension.
Magnus isn’t on the guest list for the party, but Alec lets him in and hits on him. Magnus leaves him to find Clary. She doesn’t remember who he is until he magically shows her a rune. Jace sees Magnus and Clary escape through a side door and goes after them. He tells Clary he never wants to see her again, but then the demon attacks.
The internal affairs agent tells Luke that he’s no longer a suspect. After he leaves, Luke tells Simon that the pack is indebted to him.
The real Jace wakes and convinces Meliorn to let him through the door before he closes it against the coming demons. The portal will be his only way out. Alec arrives seconds after the door is closed.
Jace jumps into his other body, who is hiding from the demon in fear. He and Clary fight the demon. They kill it, but not before it pumps venom into Jace. Clary wants to take him home to heal him, but he wants to go after Valentine.
Magnus finds the portal and activates it. Jace asks him to destroy the portal after they leave. Clary and Jace go through to find Valentine.
Alec lets Izzy know that the trial will happen because he couldn’t get the Cup. She thanks him for trying.
After coming through the portal, Jace draws a healing rune, but it makes him only marginally better. They hear a noise in the closet and open it to find Jace’s father, alive.
