On Shadowhunters this week, Clary tries to find the warlock who brewed her mother’s potion, while everyone prepares for Alec and Lydia’s wedding.
Isabelle asks Jace if he’s spoken with Alec. He says Alec is busy with wedding plans.
Clary thanks Alec for helping to get her mom back. He thanks her for saving his sister.
Magnus calls Alec to talk about his relationship with Lydia. Alec says the marriage is about honor. Magnus asks where the honor is in living a lie. He says if Alec is in love he’ll back off. He knows Alec feels as he does. Alec fears he’ll lose his family and career.
Clary calls Simon and asks him to be her date for the wedding. He says he’ll have to wait until after sundown.
Jace and Clary are uncomfortable around each other. They meet with Magnus and Hodge to talk about which warlocks could have made the sleeping potion for Jocelyn. Magnus says it’s Ragnor Fell. He’s been holed up in his secret country house hiding from Valentine. He offers to take Clary and Jace to talk to him. Lydia and Alec overhear the plan. Magnus is rude to them.
Clary tries to talk to Jace about their relationship, but he doesn’t want to discuss it.
Jace, Clary and Magnus portal to a field so they can walk to Ragnor’s house. A magical fire appears. Magnus says only the pure of intention can walk through it. They all walk into it, but only Clary appears on the other side.
Clary sees Ragnor’s house and knocks on the door. The house appears empty, but she discovers him hiding in a picture. He admits he made the potion for her mother as he talks to empty chairs. She tells him if he finds Jace and Magnus and wakes her mother, she’ll give him anything. He snaps his fingers and Jace and Magnus appear in the empty seats.
Ragnor says he needs the book of the white to create the antidote. He says Jocelyn hid it where Valentine couldn’t get his hands on it. He has something that will help them find it. He runs upstairs to get it. A demon appears and pushes him over the balcony. It got through when the fires reset.
Magnus tries to save Ragnor, but he dies in his arms. Magnus creates a portal and tells Jace and Clary to go home. He’ll transport any important belongings later after he tends to his friend. They go through.
Isabelle confronts Jace about not talking to Alec. He says he has more important things to worry about. There’s a mole in the Institute who sent the demons after them on their quest to find Ragnor. Jace thinks it’s Lydia. Clary offers to talk to her so Jace doesn’t ruin his remaining friendship with Alec.
Clary asks Lydia about working for Valentine. Lydia says she cares about Alec and his family. Clary says Alec shouldn’t have to give up who he is to please his family. Lydia says he wants to marry her. She asks for Clary’s trust.
Isabelle asks Simon for advice on the bachelor party. He suggests that it’s about friends coming together and assuring each other that they’ll always be there.
Magnus is looking through pictures when Ragnor appears to him. They discuss Magnus’s past love life.
Isabelle brings Alec and Jace together to talk instead of a traditional bachelor party. They apologize. Jace says he was trying to do what was right. Alec asks Jace about Clary. Jace says he must be sick for being attracted to his sister. Alec says the situation is just confusing. He says Shadowhunters’ emotions get in the way. When someone knocks you off the path of duty, you have to focus and find your way back. Jace says you still have to be true to yourself. Alec says he is by doing his duty. He asks Jace to give him away at the ceremony.
Magnus and Ragnor discuss more of Magnus’s past loves. Ragnor tells him if it ever comes around again, he should fight for love.
At the cathedral, Maryse tells Alec that she’s proud of him. Simon comes just in time for the ceremony. He hugs Clary and they sit. Lydia walks down the aisle. She’s beautiful. She and Alec exchange jewelry.
When Lydia and Alec are to mark each other with wedded runes, Magnus interrupts the ceremony. Maryse tells him to leave, but he tells her it’s between him and Alec. He’ll leave if he asks him to.
Alec tells Lydia he can’t marry her. She says he deserves to be happy. She’ll be fine. Alec walks down the aisle and kisses Magnus passionately. Maryse is horrified. Isabelle tells Alec she’s proud of him.
Jace thanks Lydia for doing right by Alec. She says she’s going back to Idris.
Jace tells Clary that he’s sorry for shutting her out.
Magnus takes Jace, Alec and Clary aside to show them belongings from Ragnor’s home. Clary recognizes a bookmark as one from a book of spells in the other realm. Magnus uses it to track its owner. It’s Camille and she’s locked away in the basement of the Hotel Dumort.
Lydia tries to take the Mortal Cup back to Idris, but someone attacks her and steals it before she can leave.
Clary shows Jace her mother’s box of her brother’s baby items so he knows Jocelyn didn’t abandon him. He says he doesn’t know who he is anymore. He was tempted to go with Valentine.
Alec’s parents come to him. His mother is disgusted that he embarrassed her for a Downworlder. His father doesn’t understand it, but he’s not upset.
Hodge relieves Luke of his duty watching over Jocelyn. He then uses a ring to produce a hologram of Valentine. Hodge says he’ll bring him the Cup if he breaks his punishment rune.
