Game of Thrones star Stephen Dillane admitted in a surprisingly honest interview that he doesn't understand why the show is so popular.
The Stannis Baratheon actor told The Independent that he primarily took the role for the money, not because he was particularly passionate about the series.
'“I do not regret having done Game of Thrones, but I have nothing to say. I understood neither the series nor its success when I was attending," he said. "The experience was very strange, it passed under my nose. For a role like it to [please me], I must get interested [in it], which was not really the case."
Dillane joined Game of Thrones in the second season and (spoiler alert!) departed at the end of the fifth, having been killed by Brienne of Tarth after the Battle of Winterfell. Although fans were unsure whether Stannis had really died in the season 5 finale, his demise was later confirmed off screen.
This is the latest instance of a Game of Thrones actor dismissing the show's popularity. After spoiling several upcoming plot developments in an interview, Ian McShane told fans to "get a fucking life," calling the series "just tits and dragons," as we previously reported.
Game of Thrones returns for its sixth season on April 24.
