The new films in theaters this week are filled with thrills, chills and laughs.  While most of the action packed thrillers and horror films are R-rated, there are comedies available for all ages.

A female bunny police officer comes to the big city to try to make a name for herself in ZootopiaThe small rabbit struggles to keep order among animals that are much bigger than her.  Her job becomes even more difficult when she is partnered with a sly fox to crack a case.  The PG animated adventure features the voices of Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, J.K. Simmons, Idris Elba, Tommy Chong, Octavia Spencer, Bonnie Hunt and Jenny Slate.  The film is playing in conventional and 3D theaters and runs one hour and 48 minutes.

A TV news program asks its single employees to volunteer to cover the war in Afghanistan in Whiskey Tango FoxtrotThe one hour and fifty-two minute film is based on the memoirs of Kim Barker who decided it was time for a change in her life.  She takes on the mission and ventures out to report on the war-torn area.  The out-of-place American gets the experience of a lifetime.  Tina Fey, Margot Robbie, Martin Freeman, Alfred Molina and Billy Bob Thornton star in the comedic drama.  It’s rated R for language, sex, drugs and violence.

Terrorists attack as the leaders of the world’s most influential nations meet in London Has FallenAfter the strike, the American president goes missing and becomes the main target for the aggressors.  With the president’s life hanging in the balance, a secret service agent is tasked with keeping him safe and out of the hands of the terrorists.  Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart, Morgan Freeman and Angela Bassett star in the one hour and 39-minute action thriller.  The suspense film is rated R for violence and language.

A devastating accident rips a family apart, killing the son in The Other Side of the DoorThe grieving mother seeks solace in an age-old ritual that lets her hear her son’s voice and say her final goodbye.  When she disobeys the rules of the custom, she releases evil spirits that terrorize her and her family.  The horror film is running in limited theaters for one hour and 36 minutes.  The suspense film is rated R for violence.

A writer struggles with love in Knight of CupsIn the one hour and fifty-eight minute drama, a man navigates through a series of relationships as he travels through Los Angeles and Las Vegas.  Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Natalie Portman, Brian Dennehy, Antonio Banderas, Freida Pinto, Wes Bentley, Isabel Lucas, Teresa Palmer and Imogen Poots star in the limited released film.  It’s rated R for nudity, sex and language.

Parents’ worst fears come to fruition in Emelie. When their normal babysitter cancels, a couple hires someone new so they can go out and celebrate their anniversary.  While they’re out, the babysitter terrorizes the children and teaches them about life and death.  The unrated, two-hour suspense thriller is available in limited theaters.

A Norwegian town that was devastated by a tsunami in 1905 experiences similar geological movements years later in The Wave. The townspeople are given a warning with ten minutes to spare before the rock slide causes an enormous wave that will destroy all that’s in its path.  The Norwegian adventure drama is subtitled in English and runs for one hour and 44 minutes.  The limited released film is rated R for language.

Action and comedy collide on March 11 with the release of Sasha Baron Cohen’s The Brothers Grimsby.  The drama The Young Messiah is also being released next week.
