Kansas guard Wayne Selden Jr. announced on Tuesday that he is leaving the school and declaring for the NBA draft.
By declaring for the NBA draft Selden will skip his senior year in college. In addition to declaring for the draft he has also hired an agent. Selden is projected to be a second round pick in the draft by DraftExpress.com.
"The last three years have been a true blessing to experience as a Jayhawk, an opportunity I am so thankful for," Selden said in a statement. "That being said, I'd like to announce that I will be declaring for the 2016 NBA draft. It has always been our plan that my college experience would be three years. I plan to hire representation in the coming weeks. I want to thank the Kansas fans for their support as a Jayhawk over the years. The support is unmatched and has been the driving force in games. I would like to thank each of my brothers. Together we battled through the tough and celebrated the good. Giving our all for one another. I'd also like to thank Coach Self and the entire Kansas basketball staff. I've received three years of meaningful experiences and guidance both on and off the court."
Selden was a starter for all three years at Kansas. He averaged 13.8 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists and led Kansas to a 33-5 record this season, according to Sports Illustrated. Overall he averaged 11 points, three rebounds and 2.6 assists during his college career. Selden won three Big-12 regular-season titles, one Big 12 championship and made it to the Elite Eight of the NCAA tournament this year while at Kansas. He is 37th on the school’s career scoring list with 1,202 points and his 162 three-pointers are 10th all-time.
Selden isn’t the only Kansas player to declare for the draft as Cheick Diallo has also declared.
Kansas made it to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament, but was eliminated by Villanova.
