Though it was imagined as a 10-episode event series, M. Night Shyamalan’s Wayward Pines is set to return this May.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the second season of Shyamalan’s science-fiction series will premiere on May 25. It will pick up immediately following the events of the finale, as a new character, Dr. Theo Yedlin (Jason Patric), is awoken in the midst of a rebellion against the First Generation.

Surprisingly, several characters from season 1 will return, including Terrence Howard as Sheriff Pope, who died only three episodes into the first season. Melissa Leo, Carla Gugino, Toby Jones, Tim Griffin, Shannyn Sossamon and Charlie Tahan will rejoin the cast as well. And yes, Toby Jones' character died in the first season as well, so nobody really knows what the heck is going on here.

Not set to return is Matt Dillon, who played the main character of the first season and who was killed off in the finale (though that didn't stop Howard and Jones from coming back). This second season will apparently not be based off of any book material, as the first 10 episodes covered most major events from the novels. In terms of new characters, Djimon Hounsou, Nimrat Kaur, Kacey Rohl and Josh Helman have all signed on to season 2.

Wayward Pines was a surprise success for Fox, becoming the highest-rated scripted series of summer 2015 among adults 18-49, as we previously reported. New episodes will air Wednesdays at 9PM.
