Last week on Bates Motel, Norman broke down and admitted that he needs help. This week Dr. Edwards learns just how twisted Norman’s mind has become and Norma is threatened by a dangerous man.
Norma is upset about her favorite stained glass window being smashed during the break in. She’s afraid it was Bob Paris. Romero assures her that it wasn’t. He says he just made people in the drug trade angry and they retaliated.
Norma goes to the hardware store to find someone to fix her window. She’s followed by Dylan’s neighbor from the mountain. He overhears her give the clerk her address.
Norman tells Dr. Edwards that he’s willing to try medication. He says he was mistaken when he said his mother kills people. Dr. Edwards asks about his relationship with his mother. Norman says it’s typical. Edwards also asks about Norman’s father. Norman is afraid to say the wrong thing.
Norman asks to make a phone call to Emma. Instead, he sneakily calls his mother’s cell phone. He gives her a heartfelt apology and says he’s working hard to get better.
Dylan brings Emma home. Her father greets them before they go up to her room. When Dylan’s hand brushes her scar, she pulls away.
A police officer calls Dr. Edwards to discuss what Norman told him about his mother. The cop tells him that it’s unfounded. Norma has no record, Bradley was a suicide and the murder of Miss Watson was solved. Edwards tells the officer that Norman denies it now, but he seems unsure.
Dylan tells Emma’s father that he has a job interview in Seattle the next day. It’s an assistant manager position at a hops distributor. He says it’s similar to his position in the marijuana trade, but he can’t put that on his resume. Emma’s dad tells him to be creative.
Dylan’s neighbor rings Norma’s doorbell. He says he creates stained glass windows, as well as ironworks. She invites him in. He introduces himself as Chic. He tells her a lie about how he ended up disabled.
Dylan comes clean about his experience at his job interview. He says he moved from security to a desk job in less than a year. The interviewer is impressed.
Romero angrily tells Rebecca that she crossed the line by trashing his home. He informs her that the DEA is looking into her involvement in the Bob Paris case.
Norman sees Julian. He’s so drugged up he can’t move. Norman is upset, so he goes outside to the garden. His mother joins him there. She asks how his therapy is going. Norman doesn’t want to betray her confidence about his father. Norma says Dr. Edwards’ job is to make him feel better, not worse. She tells him to show Edwards that he’s feeling better so they can get him out.
Creepy as ever, Chic shows up to talk to Norma at the motel at night. He wants to run the new window design past her. He tells her he knows Dylan. He asks about Caleb. Norma mentions that Caleb was her brother and Chic gets weird. Norma is uncomfortable, so she goes back to the house.
Norman tells Edwards that he’s feeling positive because his mother came to see him. Edwards tells him that his mother was never there. Norman suggests she just didn’t check in. Edwards asks what they talked about. Norman refuses to say because Edwards sees him as crazy.
Norman loses control and pounds on the door for help. Dr. Edwards calms him down, but his personality shifts to his mother. The doctor notices something is wrong. Edwards asks what he thinks of Norman. Norman tells him he should talk to the person who knows him best. Edwards asks if that’s him. He says yes, he is Norman’s mother.
Rebecca surprises Romero outside the police station. She’s agitated. She complains that he married someone else and then apologizes for being stupid and tells him to go home to his wife.
Emma is proud of Dylan for telling the truth at his interview. She shows him what she thinks is her hideous scar. He doesn’t flinch. Instead, he shows her his own scars and makes her laugh. They kiss.
Romero comes home to Norma singing at the piano. She tells him she found a guy to fix the window. He tells her the break in has been handled. She boldly asks if he killed Bob Paris. When he doesn’t answer, she asks him why. He says he had no choice. They hold each other.
Dr. Edwards checks on Norman. He asks Norman if he knows he blacked out. Norman has a headache. Edwards tells him they’ll figure things out.
Chic rings Norma’s bell. She asks him to add an iron railing to the front stairs. He admits that he lied to her. They didn’t meet by accident. He knows Caleb is Dylan’s father and her brother. She asks Chic to leave. He becomes threatening. He wants revenge on Caleb and he wants Norma to tell him where he is. Norma’s upset. She doesn’t know where he is. Chic tells her to think about what she wants, then leaves.
