Today in film news, Goosebumps 2 is officially in the works at Sony, according to Entertainment Weekly. Director Rob Letterman and writer Darren Lemke, the duo behind the 2015 film, are both expected to return for the sequel. Sony evidently hopes to have Jack Black reprise his role of R.L. Stine, although no deal is in place as of yet.
Disney is doubling down on live action films, scheduling eight more to be released between 2017 and 2019, according to Oh My Disney. The studio also offered a full list of all the projects it's currently developing, including Cruella, A Wrinkle in Time, Jungle Cruise, Dumbo, the Mary Poppins sequel, Maleficent 2, The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, The Jungle Book 2 and Tinker Bell.
Speaking of Maleficent 2, Angelina Jolie will officially reprise her role as the titular character in the sequel, according to USA Today. Back in 2014, Jolie was unsure she would return for another installment, saying that she didn't think Disney would ever make any more. Screenwriter Linda Woolverton is back on board as screenwriter.
Sherlock Holmes 3 is moving forward, with James Coyne being hired to rewrite a previous script by Drew Pearce, according to Deadline. Robert Downey Jr. recently revealed that the project was in development at the moment, and the film is expected to shoot this year.
Fresh off of The People v. OJ Simpson, Sarah Paulson has signed on to Rebel in the Rye, the upcoming J.D. Salinger biopic, according to Variety. Danny Strong will direct a script adapted from the biography J.D. Salinger: A Life. Paulson is playing Dorothy Olding, Salinger's agent who believed in him from a young age. Nicholas Hoult will play Salinger, while Kevin Spacey portrays Salinger's mentor, Professor Whit Burnett.

The duo raised $1.7 million on the crowdfunding platform to make Code 8; this is the most successful film crowdfunded in 2016 so far. The initial goal set by the Amells was only $200,000.
J.K. Rowling's Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them script will be published as a book, according to Pottermore. It will hit stores from Scholastic a few months after Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, the published version of Rowling's upcoming stage play. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is Rowling's first experience writing a film. It will hit theaters in November.
