The last episode of Jane The Virgin opened with Jane and Michael preparing to buy things for Mateo’s bedroom at the new house. However, their happiness is short lived when Michael gets the newspaper and sees a report on the Sin Rostro investigation, which put him in a bad light.

Because of the report, Derek saw that the police knew about his boat and Rafael lied, saying he didn’t say anything to the police. Meanwhile, Jane worked hard on collecting all of the newspapers that she could.

Rafael took care of the twins with Petra, who asked him about the twins’ trust funds and whether they differed from Mateo’s. He was telling her they were the same when Anezka walked in, ready to work as a waitress. However, she didn’t do such a great job, such as getting the wrong orders and dropping things.

Jane noticed Chepa had Mateo instead of Rafael so she went to pick him up. While talking with Xo, she learned her mom was interested in auditioning for her dad’s telenovela in a role as a silent film actress who was also a lounge singer. Jane encouraged her to go for it. In another part of the city, Rogelio and Dina had just finished another round of sex before she left for work.

Rafael went to pick Mateo up and discussed having a mediator to discuss a custody arrangement since they weren’t seeing eye to eye on the agreement they set up themselves. He took Mateo, but the boy ended up crying due to being separated from Jane.

Back at home, Jane was ready to purchase the items for Mateo’s bedroom when Michael came home and revealed he was fired. While he was only on six months unpaid leave pending an investigation, it still worried him. He did not want them to give up the house.

Jane went to Scott about getting more hours at work and he told her to train Anezka. Because of all the hours of work, Jane ended up spending less time with Mateo/

While this was going on, Xiomara asked Rogelio on the set if she could have the part and he gave it to her immediately. When he walked over to Dina, Xiomara saw him sniff her hair.

Jane tried her best to train Anezka, but it didn’t go well. While working herself, Jane overheard a woman talk about needing someone to help her son with a college essay. Jane volunteered herself to do it and she later told Xiomara the woman said yes. Xo told her daughter about Rogelio and Dina and she appeared bothered by it, but assured Jane it was fine.

At the mediator’s office, Rafael and Jane seemed ready to discuss options for custody and to also talk about hypothetical scenarios.

Back at the telenovela set, Dina was upset with Rogelio for casting Xiomara without consulting her and told him she better be a good actress.

Going through some scenarios, Jane and Rafael differed on vacation time, with Rafael saying he wanted to take Mateo to Europe for a month. Jane was horrified at the idea, not wanting to be away from her son for that long.

Anezka served Petra at the Marbella and Petra was surprised to see she wasn’t doing as great as Scott claimed she was. Having read the twins’ trust funds, Petra asked Jane about hers for Mateo and discovered Jane was in charge of the trust if Rafael died. But in the twins’ case, a lawyer was in charge.

Xiomara attempted to do a scene with Rogelio, but she had to read the lines off of his chest to get through it. Rogelio was sure Dina could work magic to make it look like she was not reading from the card.

Jane attempted to help the woman’s son, Evan, with his essay, but when it was made clear they expected her to write the essay, she did not feel comfortable doing this since it went against her school’s code and her own ethics. After talking to her mom and missing Mateo, Jane had a talk with Michael, who had trouble with a job interview since the newspaper report ruined his reputation.

He decided to go and talk to Rogelio, who told him that his publicist said it was better to wait things out. They went into his dressing room and Michael was horrified at how little was secure considering what Rogelio went through and the fact that Dina was in the room. He admitted he couldn’t stand locks because of Lola. When Michael left, Dina showed Rogelio she couldn’t hide the card and Xiomara hadn’t done a great job.

Petra confronted Rafael about the twins’ trust funds and learned because of their history, he still didn’t quite trust her. She felt they were in a better place, but they still had some ways to go.

Jane went back to talk to Evan and found out what his true passion was in order to help him write his essay.

Rogelio fired Xiomara and she was understanding about the situation, but he did reveal he still wanted her voice for the song. Xiomara admitted she knew about him and Dina and she figured something was there. He realized after she left he did have feelings for Dina.

Anezka got a tip from a customer for her good service and after celebrating with her, Jane discovered Evan’s mom wanted her to rewrite his essay since she didn’t like that it was about something he enjoyed rather than what she wanted to hear.

After seeing this display, Jane talked to Rafael and agreed he could have a month with Mateo in the summer as long as she got plenty of Easters to make up for it.

On set, Rogelio tried to see what Dina’s feelings for him were, but it appeared that she didn’t think there was more to their relationship.

Jane and Rafael hugged after discussing their custody arrangement, which Petra saw. In a moment of jealousy and upon hearing Anezka praise Jane, Petra ended up telling her the history between herself and Jane. Because of learning about what happened with Jane and Rafael, Anezka had an idea in her head.

Jane tried to rewrite the essay at home, but she missed Mateo too much because she was working so often and he was dealing with separation anxiety. In tears when Michael came home, she admitted how she felt. She missed Mateo and didn’t want to put the pressure on Michael when he was trying to find work. Michael assured her he was there for her and he found a job as chief of security for Rogelio.

Going back to work, Jane asked Scott for less hours and he was about to say no until Rafael overheard.

Unbeknowst to Jane, Anezka was up to no good and spent hours writing an ad for Jane’s essay service to the school Jane went to.

Petra spoke to Rafael again about the trust and told him that she knew she had changed, whereas he still resorted to lying instead of facing the consequences of his actions. Hearing her words, Rafael admitted to Derek he did tell the police about the boat.

Derek appreciated his honesty before leaving and making a call about getting someone.
