Many female celebrities have spoken out about double standards when it comes to women's bodies. Jennifer Lawrence can now be counted among them.
The 25-year-old Oscar winner appears on the cover of this month's issue of Harper's Baazar. In the cover story, released online on April 7, she opened up about her thoughts on the matter of a "normal" body type that she believes has veered too far in the wrong direction.
Speaking specifically about standards of female thinness in Hollywood, Lawrence noted: "I would like us to make a new-normal body type. Everybody says, 'We love that there is somebody with a normal body!' And I'm like, 'I don't feel like I have a normal body.' I do Pilates every day. I eat, but I work out a lot more than a normal person. I think we've gotten so used to underweight that when you are a normal weight it's like, 'Oh, my God, she's curvy,' which is crazy."
She continued, sharing her ideas on how a change to these standards could be made. "The bare minimum, just for me, would be to up the ante. At least so I don't feel like the fattest one."
The cover story also discusses Lawrence's famous friends, some of whom have similarly spoken out about body image representation in the media. As we reported earlier this week, Amy Schumer blasted Glamour Magazine for insinuating that she - a size 6-8 - was plus size by including her in their "plus-size only" issue.
