Dancing With the Stars featured many emotional performances for “Most Memorable Year” week on April 4 and one in particular had everyone talking, thanks to Jodie Sweetin.

Sweetin’s battles with drugs and alcohol have been discussed at length and when talking to her dance partner, Keo Motsepe, during rehearsal footage seen on the show, she revealed why the past year has been memorable after being able to find herself in a much happier place.

During the footage in the interview segment, she described how she found herself in a dark place at the end of Full House.

She spoke about how her mother had said she had a bright light in childhood and when she began using drugs, that light burned out. The actress said, “And I just remember my mom saying to me, ‘Your light shines again.’ So, through this dance, I get to shine again.” Their performance earned them a 23 out of 30.

Sweetin said that her darkest moments came during “those quiet moments alone when I just hated the person I became.”

Sweetin has been sober for five years and has two daughters, Zoie and Beatrix. She is engaged to Justin Hodak. She has said she refuses to look back on the past and is solely focused on her future.

After their performance, Motsepe and Sweetin were one of the last two to be called safe with Doug Heisman and Karina Smirnoff. Actress Mischa Barton was eliminated.
