Disney fans eagerly anticipating this summer's Finding Dory now have another Pixar character to get excited about. Disney has released the first official photo from its newest short, Piper, which will be released along with Finding Dory in theaters.
On April 6, Disney took to Instagram, posting the first official photo of the short's title character, a young sandpiper named Piper. The company also couldn't resist the opportunity to make a punny caption.
According to Entertainment Weekly, director Alan Barillaro first thought of creating the short while watching sandpipers darting from waves in Emeryville, California.
As we previously reported, last month Disney released the first full-length trailer for Finding Dory, which will follow the quest of memory-impaired Dory (Ellen DeGeneres) to find her family. The Finding Nemo sequel also has a surprising setting: it will take place in The Marine Biology Institute of California, Dory's birthplace.
Piper will be released with Finding Dory on June 17.
