Former New York Giants defensive end Michael Strahan will be leaving Live with Kelly and Michael and join Good Morning America full-time, ABC News President James Goldston announced on Tuesday.

Strahan joined Live in 2012 shortly after Regis Philbin left. He has been appearing on Good Morning America twice a week since 2014 and he’ll leave Live over the summer, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Live will begin its search for a new co-host in the fall.

"I look forward to continuing to work with the incredible team at GMA. It is an exciting opportunity to be able to bring unique stories and voices to the audience,” Strahan said in a statement. “My time with Live With Kelly and Michael has been transformative, and my departure will be bittersweet. Kelly has been an unbelievable partner, and I am so thankful to her and the entire team. I am extremely grateful for the amazing support I've received from all of the fans."

Strahan played for the Giants for 15 years. He made the Pro Bowl seven times, was selected to the first team All-Pro four times and won the Super Bowl with the Giants in his final season in 2007, according to Sports Illustrated. He is a member of the Hall of Fame.

The Hall of Famer will begin his full-time duties at Good Morning America in September and will continue to be a NFL analyst for Fox.
