Alec tells Magnus that things are moving too fast. Magnus suggests slowing things down by going on a date.
Alec finds Lydia unconscious. She says Hodge’s name when she awakens.
Clary and her friends watch Hodge punch Lydia on the surveillance footage. They see him talking to Valentine with his ring. Turns out the ring was smuggled in during what was supposedly a random Forsaken attack.
Hodge brings the Cup to Valentine. Valentine purifies a vat of blood and gives it to his human soldiers to turn them into Shadowhunters.
Jace and Alec go after Hodge. Jace believes everything is his fault because he didn’t kill Valentine when he had the chance. Luke sends the pack to bring Hodge back alive.
Valentine asks his soldiers to bring Jace and Clary to him. He tells Hodge that he will not be included in his ranks because he’s a traitor.
Clary and Izzy talk to Raphael about Camille. Raphael denies them entry. Simon tries to change his mind, but fails. Raphael says he will give them Camille’s belongings. Clary says she wouldn’t have left the book lying around.
Jace finds Hodge. Hodge tells Jace that Valentine has the Cup. Jace attacks him and cuts off Hodge’s hand. Jace goes in for a killing blow, but Alec stops him.
Alec and Luke treat Hodge’s wound, while Jace tries on his ring to talk to Valentine. Valentine invites him to help him create a Shadowhunter army to fight demons. Jace reminds him that most people who drink from the Cup will die. He tells Valentine he’s coming for him and then removes the ring.
Izzy sorts through Camille’s belongings. Raphael realizes Izzy is stalling. She tries to fight him, but he gets away.
Simon wheels a coffin into the hotel prison. The guard tells him to wait while he talks to Raphael. After he leaves, Clary steps out of the casket.
Alec tells Luke he’s worried about Jace. Luke says they need to keep an eye on him so he doesn’t turn like Valentine did. Hodge and Jace are missing.
Clary cuts the chains on Camille’s coffin and asks her where the book is. She says it’s in her apartment. They need to sneak her out to get it.
Alec calls Jace and tells him not to let Valentine control him. Jace says Valentine raised him to be a killer and he’s going to make him regret it. Jace threatens to torture Valentine’s hiding place out of Hodge. Hodge says he’s just like his father.
Simon tries to sneak Camille and Clary out of the hotel through underground tunnels, but Raphael finds them. Raphael says he’ll burn both Camille and Simon for betrayal. Izzy breaks a hole in the wall, shooting a sunbeam between Raphael and Simon. Simon and his friends escape.
Camille wants a signed statement that Simon asked her to turn him into a vampire. Simon agrees to do it in exchange for the book.
They go to Magnus for the document. Magnus says he thought he was done with Camille. Izzy calls for backup. Clary tells Simon he doesn’t have to do it. He says nothing matters except Jocelyn.
When Camille smells Alec come through the door, she kisses Magnus to upset him. She says it won’t work out because Alec is mortal.
Alec tells Clary that Jace went after Valentine. Luke is looking for him. Staying on task is their only way to stop Valentine.
Jace puts on the ring to contact his father. He tells him that he’s reconsidered his offer. Valentine says fighting Jace would prove difficult, but going after his friends won’t be.
One of Valentine’s thugs sees Simon’s van go by to Camille’s apartment building. Inside the apartment, Alec and Magnus check the perimeter.
Camille asks Simon the sign the pardon document in his blood. Camille says Dot must have hidden the book in the apartment. Then she leaves.
Jace calls Clary, but she refuses to leave. She wants to stick to the plan. Jace hurries towards the apartment building.
Clary and Simon believe the book is hidden in plain sight. They pull out a cookbook and find it marked with the other half of the bookmark. When they put their half in place, the book transforms. Izzy says they have to go. Valentine has arrived.
Valentine steps out of a portal. Izzy and Simon attack him, but his soldiers grab them. Jace appears and Valentine says if he fights him, his friends will die. He says Jace’s friends make him weak. Valentine wants Clary to wake Jocelyn because they’ll both join him eventually. Jace makes a deal that his friends will live, then steps through the portal with Valentine. Clary tries to stop him, but Alec grabs her before she gets stuck in limbo.
Simon assures Clary that they will find Jace. He says love makes them stronger. They embrace.
Magnus tells Alec that he and Camille are ancient history. Alec says his being mortal could be a problem. Magnus says he can’t see the future.
Magnus performs a spell from the book to remove Jocelyn’s sleeping spell. She wakes in Luke’s arms. Jocelyn tries to apologize to Clary, but she tells her it can wait. She needs her mom.
