Born as Onika Tanya Maraj, Nicki Minaj was born in Saint James, Trinidad and Tobago and came to the United States when she was five years old. She was raised in Jamaica, Queens, New York.

She began her career with Brooklyn group Full Force and the group created the theme song for WWE Diva Victoria. Later on, she left the group and started uploading her music to her MySpace profile, while sending her songs to people in the music industry. She landed a contract with Dirty Money Entertainment and made three mixtapes with the label including, Playtime is Over, Sucka Free and Beam Me Up Scotty.

Minaj was then discovered by Lil' Wayne, who signed her to Young Money Entertainment. It was there where she released her first album Pink Friday. It was her break through, beginning her success in the music industry. She later on released Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded and The Pinkprint.
