Captain America, one of the most honest and "good ol' boy" superheroes out there, has actually been the enemy the whole time in a new comic book series from Marvel.

Released today, Captain America: Steve Rogers #1 has the Star-Spangled Man acting as a sleeper agent for Hydra, the Nazi-esque organization that Chris Evans frequently fights on the big screen in movies like The First Avenger, The Winter Soldier, and the recently-released Captain America: Civil War.

Steve Rogers being a Hydra agent has been the plan since late 2014 when Steve Rogers #1 writer Nick Spencer started writing Captain America comics, according to Marvel executive editor Tom Brevoort in an interview with Time.

Brevoort also said that the second issue will explain the story further.

"There should be a feeling of horror or unsettledness at the idea that somebody like this can secretly be part of this organization," Brevoort said, "There are perfectly normal people in the world who you would interact with on a professional level or personal level, and they seem like the salt of the earth but then it turns out they have some horrible secret — whether it’s that they don’t like a certain group of people or have bodies buried in their basement."

On Twitter, #SayNoToHYDRACap has been tweeted over 115,000 times and counting.

Spencer also commented on the outpour of tweets from fans.

Captain America: Civil War, which has Cap (Evans) facing off against Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) with Hydra looming in the background, has grossed over $1 billion at the global box office since its release in theaters last month.

Captain America: Steve Rogers #2, with penciler Jesus Saiz and writer Nick Spencer returning from Steve Rogers #1, hits stands on June 29.
