On the last Jane The Virgin, Jane was working hard not only planning for Mateo’s first birthday, but also planning the wedding. She had even booked a local celebrity performer she saw in the park months in advance. While talking with Michael, Alba and Xo, Jane found out Alba had spoken with an actual publisher who wanted to see Jane’s work.
Michael left in order to take care of some business and Jane was surprised to see Petra did not want to come to the wedding. She went to talk to her and once Petra apologized and agreed to keep Anezka away from Jane, the latter asked her to come to the wedding since she is family.
On a park bench, Michael pleaded with Susanna to help him with the case, but she was reluctant since the shooting that killed Sin Rostro had been traumatic. She considered helping him.
Meanwhile, Rafael dealt with a visit from Derek, who gave him 48 hours to turn over the hotel to him. When Jane came over with Mateo, she asked if he had decided what to do when Petra walked in. Both of them have their own ideas on how to handle things and Rafael said he would talk to his lawyers.
At her meeting with Professor Donaldson, Jane found out that her professor didn’t think she should meet with a publisher until her book was even readier than it was at the moment.
Rogelio attempted to take over a production meeting in Dina’s absence, but the writers are not happy about the long hours and low pay so they plan to strike the next Friday. Horrified, Rogelio tried to tell Jane, who supported them, until she realized they want to picket the day before her wedding.
Jane tried to figure out a plan for not only the wedding, but how her dad could fix the situation. She suggested he should show them compassion and to hear them out. As for the wedding, she thought about moving the date up even sooner.
At his office, Rafael told Petra what the lawyers said and how he could be made an example. She asked him to hear her idea out and was happy when he considered listening.
Jane and her family worked hard to change plans with everyone involved, but she was then upset to find out that since she missed calls from Bobby, he had to cancel since he was double booked and someone called him back before she did.
Rogelio talked to Jerry, one of the possible strikers and offered to work as a crew member for a week to see how they live. They made a deal that if Rogelio lasts, they will wait until after the wedding to strike. But if he didn’t manage to last for a week, he would be the face of their strike.
Luckily for Jane, Xo was able to get a group to come for Mateo’s party and when she tried to call Rafael, she found he was in a meeting with Petra. She went to his office to see what was going on and to hide what she was there for, she asked Rafael to join her and Mateo to see the group so Mateo was comfortable seeing them.
Michael and Jane talked about what was going on before Michael got a call from Susanna with information on the names from the flash drive that belonged to Sin Rostro. While he was on the phone, Beverly Flores, the publisher, came to talk to Jane. She was excited to read Jane’s novel, even though Jane’s advisor told her not to submit it yet. Jane asked Michael to read it over for her and he agreed to give his honest opinion.
While Rogelio struggled to work as a crew member, at the park, Mateo, Jane and Rafael had fun watching the singing dinosaurs until Petra arrived, claiming she was there to get a head start on looking for a fun group for the twins.
Rogelio managed to do all the cables for the lighting, but then Esteban not only wanted more lighting for his facial features, but he snapped a photo of Rogelio acting as crew member.
Jane and Petra watched the dinosaurs and argued until Jane heard the idea. She did not feel the idea would work and was shocked when Rafael said he decided to go with Petra’s idea.
Anezka helped Petra with her hair and told her sister that she thought it was possible Rafael was falling for her again. At her hotel room, Jane was surprised and not happy to see Michael fell asleep reading her novel. She woke him up and he apologized, saying that he wasn’t that big on romance and it would take her a while to become the next Angelique Harper.
The next day, Rafael was surprised when the FBI came in to search his computer and thought Derek may have been involved. Back at the hotel, Jane worried over Mateo’s cough while Michael revealed his mom may not make it to the wedding if it was moved.
At the set, Rogelio felt like he was doing a good job, until he was told to change one of the bulbs in the lights.
As it turned out, Rafael wasn’t really arrested, but it had been a ruse to freak Derek out and hopefully to confess to the blackmailing. Things didn’t go well due to construction outside the office messing with the recording device Rafael had set up.
While he tried to get his brother to confess, Rogelio was stuck on a catwalk and refused to move. However, Jane came and to save her wedding, she got him to go across to change the bulb.
When she got down from the catwalk, a crew member said Mateo was wheezing badly. After calling a doctor, she was told to take him to the hospital.
At the hospital, the doctors ran tests on Mateo to determine why he was sick. Jane told her relieved family they ruled out serious infections and urged them to go home since she and Rafael were with him.
Rafael and Jane discussed what happened with Derek and realized that they had to cancel Mateo’s birthday since he was in the hospital. After canceling the party, Rogelio was down when he discovered the network executives planned to fire the whole crew before the strike.
Jane and Rafael reminisced about going through the pregnancy and year of raising Mateo. The next day, the family came to celebrate Mateo’s birthday with him. Rogelio told Jane about what happened at work and he offered to have one of the crew member’s family members fly Michael’s mother to the wedding. After all she had gone through, Jane agreed.
While talking to Jane about her book, Michael gets an idea that maybe Derek and Mutter wanted the hotel because the hidden money was there. Citing exigent circumstances, Michael called Susanna so they could investigate. When they arrived, they discovered Mutter chained up and the audience saw Derek was already on a flight with the money.
Petra went to talk to Jane but instead of them making up, they argued over whether Jane always had to be right about things.
At the prison, Magda spoke to Anezka, who was wearing a wig and looked a lot like Petra. Apparently, they have been in cahoots for a year on a secret plan.
