Margot Robbie could see her Harley Quinn character from the upcoming film Suicide Squad join other superheroines in a female-centric superhero movie.
Robbie would produce the picture as well, with a writer already supposedly working on the script, according to THR.
Harley Quinn wouldn't be the only notable character in the film though. The Birds of Prey, a group of female superheroes from DC Comics, might appear in the film as well. While team members have swapped over the years, popular members have been Batgirl, Black Canary, Huntress, and Lady Blackhawk. In the comics, the team has worked with popular characters such as Catwoman and Poison Ivy as well.
Margot Robbie will first portray Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad. Set for release this summer, the third film following Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in the DC Comics movie universe has government official Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) giving orders to a team of supervillains recruited to execute dangerous missions. Harley Quinn is a member alongside Deadshot (Will Smith), Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman), Boomerang (Jai Courtney), El Diablo (Jay Hernandez), Enchantress (Cara Delevingne), Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) and more. Jared Leto plays The Joker to Ben Affleck's second time as Batman.
Robbie was most recently seen in Whiskey Tango Foxtrot and will play Jane in The Legend of Tarzan, coming out this summer. She is not officially set to reprise her role as Harley Quinn in any future DC movies yet. DC currently has Wonder Woman (6/2017), The Justice League Part One (11/2017), The Flash (3/2018), Aquaman (7/2018), Shazam! (4/2019), The Justice League Part Two (6/2019), and Cyborg (4/2020) on its slate. Warner Bros. has set aside October 5, 2018, November 1, 2019, and July, 24, 2020 as dates for untitled DC Comics films. Could one of them be Margot Robbie's showcase? Stay tuned to find out!
