Last week, on Rush Hour, Carter gained Lee’s trust when he helped him see the truth in a confusing case. This week Carter asks Lee to be his wingman as he tries to woo a beautiful witness.
Nina is a witness against a man named Perry, who runs a murder for hire business. She was his assistant. Carter promises to protect her.
Carter and Lee suit up in protective gear. They need to get Nina to the courthouse. Donovan gets them a beat up ’98 Honda for transport. He scans them for bugs and gives them an untraceable phone.
Perry’s lawyer advises him to take a plea deal, but he refuses.
Nina hugs Carter when he arrives. When she leaves the room, Carter asks Lee to be his wingman. Lee awkwardly compliments him when Nina returns. Carter just shrugs and hands her a bulletproof vest.
When they get in the car, Carter spots a drone. They grab their things and run, just as the car blows up. That was a close call! They scurry down the street as the drone shoots bombs. They finally lose the drone, only the be shot at by a hired killer. Lee takes him out and Carter directs them to an apartment he knows on the next block.
Carter knocks on the door only to have it slammed in his face. The apartment belongs to a man he arrested for streaking. He eventually lets them in, but his wife is upset. She didn’t know about his incident.
Carter calls Didi. She says she’ll send a new car. Carter asks her to keep it quiet around the station. Someone on the inside is working for Perry.
The judge at Perry’s trial grants a 90-minute recess for Nina to arrive. If she doesn’t make it, the trial will go on without her.
Two men appear outside our heroes’ hideout. Carter runs over Nina’s testimony with her. Lee realizes from her statements that she dated Perry. The hitmen try to get the apartment owner to open the door. When that fails, they blow the door down with explosives.
Lee hooks up a zip-line with the equipment Carter brought along. His makeshift glider for Carter, made with a spatula, is hilarious. They flee to an adjacent building. It’s another close call.
Carter calls Didi and tells her they’ve been compromised again. Nina says Perry’s company makes tiny tracking devices. Lee asks how to break the signal. Nina says they’d have to be underground.
Donovan tells Cole that the tracer was working properly that morning. Didi opens the back to find a circuit jammer. Donovan says the tracer was on his person all day from the moment the equipment tech handed it to him. Is the tech our leak?
Carter and Lee take Nina to an underground train station. Carter lectures her for keeping her relationship with Perry a secret. He says the defense lawyer could use it against them. She says only Perry knows. Carter says he would use it as leverage to stay out of jail.
Cole and Didi find the equipment tech dead in the trunk of his car. Apparently, Perry is taking care of all his loose ends.
An announcement comes over the loudspeaker at the train station using Carter’s code name. It’s Didi. She suggests they leave anything the tech touched in a backpack to be picked up. This includes Carter’s pants. Will he really go without them?
Nina takes off on a train to keep from endangering Carter and Lee further. Carter and Lee go to the safe house to look for clues. Carter is in his underwear. He takes a pair of Nina’s Capri sweatpants.
Carter thinks Nina is trying to find more damning evidence to make sure her testimony is worth it. He finds her deactivated cell phone and uses it to trace her previous traveled routes. He finds an address owned by Perry’s business. They call Gerald to take them there. He shows up on a school bus and brings Carter pants.
Carter finds a shirt with a name tag on the bus. Gerald is embarrassed to admit that he took a part time job. He wants it kept on the down low. Gerald is such comic relief.
Carter and Lee approach the house from Nina’s phone. She is there digging through a safe. They find a pass-phrase key to Perry’s encrypted files. Carter calls Didi with the code. Didi asks him to show Nina the pic of the equipment tech. Turns out Perry fired him for being incompetent. Maybe Perry isn’t the one trying to kill Nina.
Carter picks up the backpack to lead the hitmen to them. He wants to find out who is after Nina. The hitmen find the bus empty. Carter throws flash bombs into the vehicle. The men dive out the door where he and Lee are waiting. The men put up an impressive fight. Lee tears off a windshield wiper to fight a man with a knife. Gerald hands Carter a traffic cone which surprisingly works in taking a man down. Nina is impressed with Carter’s fighting skills.
Our threesome gets to the courtroom late but brings their new evidence. Carter accuses Perry’s wife of trying to kill Nina. She wanted to make sure Perry’s business was worth something before she left him for cheating on her.
Back at the station, Carter asks Nina for her number. She tells him she’s going to live with her sister in London for a while. Poor Carter. He can’t seem to catch a break.
