There was a sitcom energy during my interview with actress Debi Mazar (Younger) and Chef Marc Murphy (Chopped) from the kitchen style to their banter. There was no laugh track, but there was family, food and love as they schooled me on the wonders of Soy Vay’s signature sauces. I couldn’t see Debie and Marc at the time of the interview, but the video footage I saw afterwards made me see the interview in a whole new way.

These two celebrities emphasized that using the voice-activated recipes at SoyVay.com is quick, easy and fun. With red French manicured nails and a graphic blouse, Debi brought the glamour talking with sharp wit in her trademark Queens-bred accent. Her face has always reminded me of the original 1959 Barbie doll. In a plaid shirt and jeans, Marc was the guy next door, who often mentioned his kids. In fact, both Debi and Marc came across as warm, family-oriented people with great senses of humor.

After speaking with them, I wanted to go out to the grocery store and buy some Soy Vay sauce and start cooking Debi and Marc’s 15-minute recipes with their voices in my ears. Read my interview for TheCelebrityCafe.com and watch the exchange below.

TheCelebrityCafe.com: How did you get involved with Soy Vay?

Debi Mazar: It’s one of those things that parents happen to love because it gives our kids a spin. I got into by drizzling it [Soy Vay sauce) on vegetables. How about you? [to Marc Murphy]

Marc Murphy: For me, it was my mother-in-law along time ago. She’s been using it for years because she pours it all over the chicken and throws it in the oven and it always tastes good even if she forgets about it. But the reason I also like it is because it’s got good ingredients in it. There’s nothing bad in here. It’s all good stuff.

TCC: So Soy Vay is soy sauce?

DM: It’s soy. There are different variations. Mine has garlic, his has teriyaki with sesame. There are other ones that have pineapple. There are different varieties. There’s something for everyone.

MM: But this is the original one. They had one and then they started making other ones. And I know the one here that you’re using, the Hoisin. What’s great about it is when you eat it, people are like “Wow, this seems like a really complex, complicated thing.

DM: And it’s made with love: A Jew and an Asian fell in love and they came up with these two ingredients, combined everything and boom! It’s sold at Whole Foods and all over the country and good stores. It’s easy to get at all the grocery stores.

MM: And you know if it’s at Whole Foods, it’s got good stuff in it. They don’t carry anything with bad things in there.

DM: Are you sure?

MM: I’m positive.

DM: Okay.

MM: That’s what their thing is. They don’t even carry that sugar that’s fake because they’re not sure if it’s good for you.

DM: Well, they do carry Stevia. I’m not into Stevia.

MM: I think they stopped doing Stevia.

DM: Really?

MM: We’re talking about Soy Vay

DM: Oy Vay!

TCC: More and more we’re turning to the Internet for inspiration and help with our meals. How do you think the web has changed the way we’re attempting to cook?

DM: I don’t know about for your personal experience, but there are a lot of varieties of places to go to get recipes. This is a voice-activated thing. I believe it’s the first one ever. So if people can’t get it together, they can’t figure it out or they’re looking and they don’t want to get their computer dirty. There’s a new thing, you go to SoyVay.com, you press the button, and it guides you through step by step and this app talks back to you so it guides you through the recipe, which is kind of fun. It makes cooking these different recipes a lot of fun. You get to hear from him. [Marc] You get to hear from me. There are a variety of 80 to 100 different recipes.

MM: There are about 80 [recipes] on there. We’ve done a couple ourselves with our voices. So yes, you can have us in your kitchen helping you out. It’s amazing because you start and you say “list the ingredients” and it’ll tell you the ingredients without even touching the computer, voice activated, and say “next” and it’ll tell you the other ingredient that you need. You know, this much tofu, this much cauliflower.

DM: So it makes cooking fun. If you’re trying to impress your girlfriend or your boyfriend or your significant other, you can start cooking and you say “next” and it tells you what to do. It’s kind of foolproof and you can turn out a quick, easy meal in like fifteen minutes or under. It’s delicious.

MM: It’ll also set a timer for you if you want. It’ll say “sauté this for five minutes, set the timer and you can go off and do something. It’s like that voice-activated typing thing for emails, but it comes back to you. It’s great; you don’t have to touch it. You don’t have to get your hands dirty.

DM: And it’s innovative.

TCC: What are you cooking now?

MM: My recipe is cauliflower-fried rice. What I do is take the cauliflower and I pulse it in a food processor and it sort of turns into these little pieces and then you sear it really hard and it mimics rice. Then I’ve got some tofu in there, some peas, some scallions, and of course the most important ingredient, the Soy Vay Veri Veri Teriyaki. That’s my favorite.

DM: And I have turkey lettuce cups. It’s simply sautéed turkey with mushrooms, carrots with the cabbage, and then the Soy Vay Garlic sauce, which is delicious and I serve it in a little piece of lettuce that’s kind of light and delicious. You get your protein and it tastes great and it smells even better.

MM: My kids love that recipe. I had made this the other day for my kids because I was coming here and I wanted to obviously come and taste the recipe. It worked out very nicely and my kids devoured them.

DM: So tonight, when you go home, you’re going to go to SoyVay.com and you’re going to make one of our recipes. It’s that easy.

MM: First, you’re going to go buy some.

DM: Or you can order on Amazon.

MM: Can you?

DM: Now, right now. Amazon Prime.

MM: It’ll be there by the time you get home because I think Amazon knows things you’re going to order. It’s already being shipped before you order. That’s the way I feel.

DM: Well, they have Amazon the same day. You’re all set Chris.

TCC: So what’s next for you?

DM: I have Season 3 of Younger I’m filming. I have a TV show called Extra Virgin Americana that’s on. Other than that, I’m just taking out the garbage and cooking, and taking care of my kids. What about you? (to Marc)

MM: Well, you know, taking care of the kids. My kid had strep throat this weekend, so I had to take care of that. Besides that, doing all sorts of stuff. Also, we’re shooting Chopped, Chopped Juniors.

DM: I can’t wait to see that. April 26, right? I was in the subway yesterday and I saw that it’s airing. Great poster.

MM: We got a whole bunch of them. We keep making them and making them. It’s fantastic. But that’s it, and keeping the restaurants running.

DM: He’s busy.

MM: Juggling.

TCC: Yes, very busy. Well, thank you.

DM: Thank you.

MM: Thank you for getting the word out about Soy Vay. We love this stuff.

TCC: I’m going to try it, definitely. Bye!
