At their annual upfront, The CW boasted a high number of female-led shows, highlighting Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Jane the Virgin and now Supergirl. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend actress Rachel Bloom at the upfront presentation said of women, "We're half the world. I don't know why it's taken so long. We're 51 percent of earth."
The presentation gave Supergirl its official welcome to the network, bringing Melissa Benoist onstage alongside her new family of superhero shows--The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow and Arrow--and the fit appeared natural. The network also revealed that there are now four superhero shows on the roster as an annual crossover episode will take place.
With the full schedule out, trailers for new shows were also revealed, including fall's Frequency and No Tomorrow and midseason pickup Riverdale, a darker take on the beloved Archie comic book series.
Frequency, which debuts on the network this fall, features Riley Smith, Mehki Phifer and FlashForward's Peyton List and is a reboot of the 2000 film now where a detective her late father are reconnected through an old radio.
Comedy No Tomorrow is a carpe diem tale of an overly organized woman who meets her opposite, starring Tori Anderson and Joshua Sasse.
