Bill Hader starred, executive produced, co-wrote and made his directorial debut with Barry, a half-hour comedy pilot that HBO has picked up as a series.
Hader plays an ex-marine turned hitman tired of the life he lives. While in Los Angeles for an assignment, he finds his place in the local theater scene. Henry Winkler (Happy Days, Arrested Development) plays acting teacher Gene Cousineau. Stephen Root (King of the Hill), Sarah Goldberg (Hindsight), Anthony Carrigan (Gotham), and Glenn Fleshler (Billions) also star.
Alec Berg, executive producer and writer for HBO's Silicon Valley, will executive produce as well as write with Hader, who will direct the pilot episode. The series will shoot in Los Angeles in 2017, according to Deadline.
Hader was recently seen in The Angry Birds Movie, Inside Out and Trainwreck. He's best known for being an SNL cast member from 2005-2014 and for playing a cop with Seth Rogen in Superbad. He'll next appear in Finding Dory, The BFG and Sausage Party. He's set to star with Rogen and Zach Galifianakis as a crew of astronauts stuck in space for years who finally come across another ship. Called The Something, the comedy is set to hit theaters in May 2017.
