Danny Rayburn is still controlling everything that is happening. He might be doing it even more than he was before. We flashback to Danny confronting Lowery at his house the night Lowery attempted to have Danny murdered. He gives Lowery the tape about John.
In the present, John and Lowery are still having their awkward conversation where Lowery tells John he wants this to all go away or he will expose their family. Lowery seems to have the upper hand at the moment. John is continuing to be haunted by visions of Danny and then goes beast mode on Danny’s old truck.
Kevin is trying to keep it together. He has gone back into his old drug habit to try and cope with the guilt and the financial problems. Belle has some promising news, she tells him to meet with this man to talk real estate.
Meg is also still relying on the booze to keep her going. She is having to face a weekend off when her kind-of boyfriend/lover Alec stops by to keep her company. (Alec is the guy she cheated on Marco with.)
John has decided to run for sheriff. Diana is concerned that adding a campaign for sheriff might be too much for him. (If only she knew everything…). John meets with a potential campaign manager who warns him that Danny’s story will be his opponent’s primary attack. John has to put on his detective face when he meets with Marco and Clay. Marco is still suspecting that Lowery is going to make a move soon. Marco is determined to bring down Lowery. That is currently the last thing John wants.
John and Marco visit the restaurant where they were requested by name. They quickly realize that both people here know something about Lowery and how he is trafficking people into the country. They arrest the woman, Elena Cortez and her attorney advises John against pursing this. He obviously mentions Lowery and having information on the other case that John would rather have quiet. It seems that this situation is slowly spinning out of control for John.
A nervous John calls Meg and demands that she come home ASAP. She is very hesitant but eventually returns to The Keys. She has a weird look on her face when she walks past her car (where they stored Danny’s body). They discover that Danny actually created a paper trail by running drugs through the inn. John lets Meg in on the bad news that Lowery knows everything (mainly lying to the DEA and hiding the drugs). I fear this situation is on the verge of unhinging the Rayburn clan.
Kevin is hoping for good news when he meets Mr. Burnett to talk real estate and the new marina. Burnett starts asking Kevin questions about his business plan and many things that Kevin has no idea about. He resorts to going to the bathroom to do some cocaine. He is greeted by a random drug user who wants to buy some from him. He refuses. We later see Kevin a.k.a. “Frosty” at a diner getting ready to do his first drug transaction. Kevin dictates the deal and ends up selling the drugs. I wonder if this will become a regular thing for Kevin which could only continue to cause problems for his family.
Sally is on her own investigation when she goes to Danny’s apartment in Miami. Sally's new best friend Potts is there with her, he is aware that Danny was at the apartment several months ago. Potts has a slight confrontation with John where John warns him to stay away from his family. John then breaks the news to Sally about Nolan. Sally has a look on her face that she has just about lost all trust in John.
The Carlos problem is something the Rayburns have to contain. Carlos is still in town and surprises Meg. Meg knows Carlos is scared and tells her to talk with John because he can protect him. John has a sketchy meeting with Carlos and questions him and needs the truth. Carlos starts throwing out lies, claiming Meg saying she was in on the entire situation. Bad move Carlos. He jumps in a random car and leaves. Carlos is going to be a problem.
Detective John is always busy. John and Marco went and try to convince a judge to grant them a search warrant. John confronts Meg who obviously says Carlos is lying. John tells her he has to go search Elena’s house with Marco. John is in a tough spot: he has to go along with the search or it will look suspicious, but if he finds anything on Elena, they tell the truth about Danny.
They go and search Elena’s house and John is very careful and sneaky when he finds a picture in Elena’s room of her and Rafi. John puts the picture in his pocket and claims he didn’t find anything. Smooth John. We later see John looking at the picture of them and then ripping it up.
John is speaking to a group of people where he officially announces he is running for sheriff of Monroe County. John is telling a story about how his parents had one rule when he was younger and lived at the inn, don’t stay in the guests room. John is telling this story and we notice Kevin aka “Frosty” is getting texts about drugs. We also see Elena Cortez walk freely out of jail and meet with Lowery.
Everyone put on your seat belts. It is time to go on this insane ride with the Rayburn family.
Notes from this episode:
-Kevin is on a downward spiral. He is struggling to keep the marina going, he is getting back into drugs and he lost his good friend, Jake. I worry that Kevin is heading down a dark path.
-The interaction between Sally and Nolan is exactly how I imagined an interaction with Sally and a young Danny.
-I have a feeling Meg will not be returning to New York anytime soon. Susannah should start looking for a replacement.
-I feel that the campaign for sheriff between John and Aguirre might start friendly, but will quickly get ugly.
