Daniel Craig will executive produce and star in a limited series for Showtime based on Jonathan Franzen's 2015 novel, Purity.
Purity is about a recent college graduate named Pip who has $130,000 in student debt. The young lady takes an internship with Andreas Wolf (Craig), the creator of The Sunshine Project, an organization meant to reveal the truths of the world à la Wikileaks. Andreas is taken with the young Pip and an interesting relationship is born. So far no other actors have been named for the project at this time.
Todd Field (Little Children, In the Bedroom) will direct all 20 episodes to be written and executive produced by Field, Franzen and David Hare (The Reader, The Hours). Production begins in 2017.
“Jonathan Franzen's Purity is an epic American novel that pulses with the energy of a psychological thriller," said David Nevins, the President and CEO of Showtime Networks Inc, "I whipped through it in a week.”
Craig is currently filming Steven Soderbergh's NASCAR heist comedy Logan Lucky with Channing Tatum. Other than that, the only other thing on Craig's plate is his possible involvement in the 25th James Bond film. The actor reportedly turned down about $100 million to star as Bond two more times.
