Jeff Goldblum spoke a bit about his new role as the Grandmaster in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

"He’s a hedonist, a pleasure-seeker, an enjoyer of life and tastes and smells. I thought, ‘I can do that, I’ll bet," Goldblum said to Empire, "I’m working on my part every day. I’m a sponge, researching.”

Goldblum will be seen in Thor: Ragnarok from director Taikia Waititi. The Oscar-nominated director, best known for the 2014 vampire mockumentary What We Do in the Shadows, told Goldblum to not be shy about breaking away from the script.

"[Waititi] is encouraging me to improvise and make it my own, and that’s what I’m trying to do," Goldblum said, "I hope he doesn’t throw me out on the first day!”

The Grandmaster is an incredibly intelligent master of games. The ageless wonder has spent his life learning the rules of games from various civilizations. Now, he devises challenging games of skill and chance for others to play for high stakes. Plot details on Thor: Ragnarok have yet to be revealed, so it's unknown how the character will exactly play a part in Thor's third solo adventure.

Goldblum said he'll be filming for about three weeks to a month in Brisbane, Queensland, and he shared his excitement about working with the cast and having fun in Australia.

“Not only Chris Hemsworth, Cate Blanchett, Anthony Hopkins… jeez, that’s gonna be fun. I’ve never been to Australia except to do these little publicity things," Goldblum said.

Goldblum is best known for roles in blockbusters like Jurassic Park and Independence Day. He was recently seen in The Grand Budapest Hotel and will next be seen in Independence Day: Resurgence opposite Thor's brother Liam Hemsworth.

Thor: Ragnarok will hit theaters in November 2017.
